Rangda Mahabharata Dancer's Turquoise
This is one of the twenty-seven near identical turquoise chip strands found hanging in a hank at the inner front door of this altar room. Her journals tell us they were strung by her female staff member practitioners, the chips being part of a thirteen pound gift of them from a woman she names as "Rangda of the Rings" and this turquoise has an interesting history.
They shared much knowledge of which she writes, "she personifies the wife of Shiva, the Queen of Witches and Goddess of Death. She represents death, decay and germination of life. Akin, we are thrice widowed, allowing us the ability to accumulate the energies required to perform the dark arts. This is not to be construed as a pursuit or worship of evil, but a balance between life and death."
These have been strung together with mono-filament to form these strands measuring approximately 32" in overall length and weighing 51.1 grams.
It is certainly an unusual turquoise chip strand with an extraordinary provenance that is much nicer than our photographer has been able to depict.
