A Black Pyramid Vèvé Room Find
~!~
This is another of our very long listings with an abundant text and 14 photographs, so please sit back and read the listing through. If you have come this far, we feel you will find it was worth the wait.
It has now been nearly twenty-four years ago since we were called to do the estate that had been closed up for seventeen years! This type of call usually gets us excited as they are a treasure trove. Located here in Florida, there was no electricity or running water so we rigged our own lighting and in we went. If you have ever seen the Adams Family you will have some idea as to what we were greeted with! Then the attorney handling the liquidation gave us some background.
The estate had belonged to an alleged powerful Voodoo Priestess/JooJoo Exorcist, grand daughter of a Marie Laveau, and favored daughter of a Marie Glapion.
These names meant nothing to us, but the late night talk of Voodoo and exorcism in the old mansion was enough to make us decide to spend the night in a hotel and return in the morning to assess the estate. The rest is history. Our research has shown that this woman was what she claimed and was indeed descended from a long line of well known Vodoun family originating in New Orleans in the early 1800's.
We were pretty unnerved by this until we discovered they were also devout Catholics! Although I have to admit this was unlike any Catholic home we have ever been in and some of the items found inside were a little more than disturbing.
There was no feeling of dread or unwelcome in the mansion, however there was quite a bit of contraband and other items we can or will not sell here.
This is one of a few pieces from this estate we will be listing this week, so check our other items.
We will, upon the new guardian's request, issue a named Letter of Authenticity with each lot from this estate, complying with the terms set forth to us by the estate's attorney.
Found in and recovered from what was named, "The Black Pyramid Vèvé Room." This room was an interesting work of concealment architecture. Windowless and located just above the Main Ballroom in the center of the mansion, it was only accessible through a trapdoor and cast iron spiral staircase from the storage room above it. The floor was four feet below the Main Ballroom ceiling, well concealed by the baroque architecture. The architect had concealed the room in the floor above by surrounding it with four guest suites, it was dead center in the mansion.
Painted in black enamel, with ebony flooring and paneling, the contents of the room consisted of seven, LiDiex Black Glass and Silver, charging pyramid boxes and their contents. Measuring exactly twelve feet x twelve feet with a twelve foot high ceiling, the room was well concealed by the architecture of the house, but it was stifling as there was no ventilation, the only air coming from the trap door above and that was not much. Only a few of us went into this room to recover and inventory the contents, and none of us could stay in there for more than a few minutes, it was, well, disorientating.Concerning the pieces from this room she writes, "I have used these pieces to awaken psychic perception and mystical awareness and have found them to strengthen my memory and as an aid in dreaming. I continue to receive insight and inspiration from these pieces."
And; "many of the ones awakened have sought refuge here, most being complacent in their worlds. They will come if called to a blood match."~!~
In these journals she makes some fantastic claims concerning these items and real or imagined, we understand why she and her associates were as feared and respected as they were.~!~
Jack Parsons, Aleister Crowley, Cyprianus Sex Magic Veiled Phantom Quartz Malkuth Gem
Her journaled inventory tells us this is one of six unusual gemstones that accompanied small bronze figures gifted to her in 1951 by Jack Parsons of Rocket Propulsion fame. She names this stone as, "Parsons' evocation and Cyprianus spelled." She goes on to tell us of its use in a number of notable evocations and invocations conducted by Parsons. It is the history of the gems and bronze pieces that provides a fascinating tale. Her journals go on to tell us these items stolen from Aleister Crowley by Sara Northrup in 1942. In a badly damaged letter to Parsons, Crowley alleges to have procured this gem from an Egyptian Jew antique merchant in 1904. It is Crowley who claimed this stone was indeed Malkuth, also known as Shekhinah.
To give you some background of what was in the letter we take this from Wikipedia; According to Crowley's own account, Rose (his wife), who was pregnant, had become somewhat delusional whilst in the country, regularly informing him that "they are waiting for you" but not providing him with any further information as to who "they" were. It was on 18 March, after Crowley sought the aid of the Egyptian god Thoth in a magical rite, that she actually revealed who "they" were – the ancient Egyptian God Horus and His alleged messenger. She then led him to a nearby museum in Cairo where she showed him a seventh century BCE mortuary stele known as the Stele of Ankh-ef-en-Khonsu (it later came to be revered in Thelema as the "Stele of Revealing"); Crowley was astounded for the exhibit's number was 666, the number of the beast in Christian mythology.
Crowley took this all to be a sign from a divine entity and on 20 March began performing ritual invocations of the God Horus in his rented room. It was after this invocation that Rose, or as he now referred to her, Ouarda the Seeress, informed him that, "the Equinox of the Gods had come."
It was on 8 April, when the couple were still staying in Cairo, that Crowley first heard a disembodied voice talking to him, claiming that it was coming from a being known as Aiwass, the true nature of whom Crowley never understood. Crowley's disciple and later secretary Israel Regardie believed that this voice came from Crowley's subconscious, but opinions among Thelemites differ widely.
Aiwass claimed to be a messenger from the God Horus, who was also referred to by him as Hoor-Paar-Kraat. Crowley wrote down everything the voice told him over the course of the next three days, and subsequently titled it Liber AL vel Legis or The Book of the Law.

According to her journals, Parsons related what Crowley had told him in the letter, "I have told no one, nor written of this before today, of that time in Egypt with Aiwass leading me to the musta'arabim who had possession of the bronze. In secret I reveal and relate the tale of the djinn who had brought me to the gems of Thaschus Cæcilius Cyprianus. And now it seems he has brought you to me to take them, the rings and mercury bronze statues. Just as the Egyptian Jew told me as he handed them over to me."
Malkuth
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Malkuth is the tenth of the sefirot in the Kabbalistic Tree of Life.
Description
"Earth" is equivalent to the sefirah of Malkhut, which is associated with the earth. Therefore earth – like Malkhut – represents the Oral Law. And the Oral Law is the source of the spirit of every living being, as the verse states: "Let the earth bring forth living creatures, each according to its own kind"
Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, Likutey Moharan I, 12:1).
In the Zohar, an important Kabbalistic text from late al-Andalus, Malkuth sits at the bottom of the Tree of Life below Yesod and "governs the simple fact of existence in the physical world"; it is also known as Shekhinah. "The central teaching of the Zohar coalesced around an anthropomorphic model, in which the sefirot represent a cosmic anthropos. The lower sefirot, Malkhut, Yesod, Hod, and Nezah, constitute the most physical dimension of life, the nefesh."
Unlike the other nine sephirot, it is an attribute of God which does not emanate from God directly. Rather it emanates from God's creation—when that creation reflects and evinces God's glory from within itself.
In Western Esotericism
Malkuth means Kingdom. It is associated with the realm of matter/earth and relates to the physical world, the planets and the Solar System. It is important not to think of this sephirah as "unspiritual". Even though Malkuth is the emanation "furthest" from the Divine Source, it is still on the Tree of Life and therefore has its own unique spiritual qualities. It is often said that Kether (the "highest" sephira) is in Malkuth and Malkuth is in Kether. As the receiving sphere of all the other sephiroth, Malkuth gives tangible form to the other emanations. The Divine energy comes down and finds its expression in this plane, and our purpose as human beings is to bring that energy back around the circuit again and back up the Tree.
Malkuth is also associated with the World of Assiah, the material plane, and the "densest" of the Four Worlds of the Kabbalah. Because of this relation to Assiah, it is also related to the suit of Pentacles or Coins of the Tarot. Through Assiah, Malkuth is also related to the four Page cards in the Tarot as well. There is also a connection between Malkuth and the tenth card of each suit in Tarot as Malkuth is the tenth sephiroth. In the modern set of playing cards, Malkuth is related to the Suit of Diamonds' symbolizing material wealth, or the treasures found in the physical world. Malkuths association with the Page cards of the Tarot is reflected in the modern playing card deck as the Jacks of the deck. As Malkuth is directly associated with Assiah, Malkuth also represents the second He in the Tetragrammaton and is associated with the classical element of Earth.
The Names of God associated with Malkuth are Adonai Melekh and Adonai ha-Arets. The Archangel of this sphere is Sandalphon. The Ishim (Souls of Fire) is the Angelic order associated with Malkuth, and the planetary/astrological correspondence of Malkuth is the Earth. The qlippah of Malkuth is represented by the demonic order Nehemoth. Symbols associated with this sphere are a Bride (a young woman on a throne with a veil over her face) and a double cubed altar. Where Binah is known as the Superior Mother, Malkuth is referred to as the Inferior Mother. It is also referred to as the Bride of Microprosopos, where the Macroprosopos is Kether.
~!~But Back to the Gem
Examination reveals an unusual 58.7375 x 58.7375 x 50.8 mm, 835.94 ct., faceted hexagonal dipyramid rock quartz crystal gem which displays phantom cluster veil inclusions and 92% clarity throughout. The angles of the crystal faces of this formation are those of a generator or Merlin crystal as the energy emits from its centrally located points which are in excellent condition.
Her journals also tell us "it has a powerful direct focused energy emission."
She also refers to this crystal as a "master healer with an abundance of amplified and balanced energy," and notes of its"Diamond Windows are points of access to view into other dimensions including those of one's inner self."
~!~One entry reads, "This is easily achieved by positioning the woman just so, which results in their orgasm producing a powerful source of sexual energy to draw upon. This is especially so in women engaged in an illicit sexual relationship as they are inflamed with satisfying their own base lust, as adulteresses, fornicators and the concubines of men the deem powerful."
Final Commentary
As to its value, finding a comparable stone on any marketplace for price comparison proved to be nearly impossible. We did find a giant rock crystal faceted round 900+ ct gemstone priced at over $1600 USD currently on sale for $1 a ct. upon which we based the price of this stone and not taking any of it's history into consideration, pricing this stone at $835.94 USD.
The Pouch
Although recovered with this gem and original to this estate, the pouch we recognize as one of may she procured from a shop she ands her associates frequented named The Barefoot Mailman. The name of the store was a homage to South Florida's "barefoot mailmen." Between 1885 and 1892, when no roads existed between Palm Beach and Miami, they delivered mail on foot, along a 68 mile route. Described as "Spencers on steroids," there is a web and Facebook page dedicated to them.

It is certainly a remarkable antique artifact with an extraordinary provenance that is much nicer than the photographs are able to depict.

Concerning the photographs are these excerpts from the written statement of one of our principals; "When we first entered this room we used pocket led flashlights, commonly known as tactical lights, this room lit up like a light show as we directed the beams, the three of us said "did you see that?" Among other things."
"When we ran 2000 watts of light down there, the lights shut down, period. They just would not work in the room. We checked the generators and the lights worked fine out of that room, but in it, no go. Regular, battery operated flashlights went dead in there too, fresh batteries went dead in a second."
To date, Energizer has not responded.
Little more thought was given this until one of us more or less became the caretaker of this lot, more because he was the only one able to get to the warehouse alcove where the balance of this estate is kept due to the way we had packed the volume of merchandise that came into the warehouse over the ensuing years. Although the photographer is no longer commenting on his use of a directed, high intensity led and ultra-violet light in taking some of the photographs, the staff member who retrieved many of these items from "the hole", the warehouse alcove where the balance of the items from this estate were being stored, offers some insight as to what has transpired.
"It was typical to be back there and have the power go out, but this can easily be attributed to our weather conditions and sorry excuse for a power company, but I had taken one of my pocket tac-lights with me and the first time I used it back there was, well, nothing short of phenomenal and overwhelming. This is not a joke, they like the light!"~!~
