Vicksburg Bowie by Paul Chen / Hanwei
KH2215
The Hanwei Vicksburg Bowie is a historically accurate reproduction of an 1830's Wade and Butcher Sheffield Bowie Knife. It displays premium craftsmanship and stays true to the lighter, more agile dimensions of authentic antique Bowie knives.
Key Features and Specifications: Blade Details: Hand-rubbed, satin-finished high-carbon steel with a classic false top edge. It is known for its excellent distal taper, giving it a remarkably balanced, lightweight feel in hand compared to chunky modern reproductions.
Construction: Hidden tang construction.
Handle: Hardwood, complemented by a polished brass flat guard, engrave plate and pins.
Accessories: Comes with a top-grain, high-quality leather scabbard with matching brass throat and drag fittings.
Hanwei is world-renowned for combining traditional forging with modern metallurgy to create historical blades.
Because the manufacturer's Historical Bowie Series was released in limited quantities, these knives have become highly collectible. The secondary market of a Vicksburg Bowie in excellent condition on collector and aftermarket sites sell for up to $250 in today's market.
The first documentary evidence of cutlery being produced in Sheffield dates back to the year 1297. In 1624 a craft guild, the Company of Cutlers, was formed to govern the industry in the Sheffield area. Due to the then isolated nature of Sheffield, many doubted its ability to produce substantial quantities of cutlery but, relying on the abundance of natural resources in the area, Sheffield flourished and became a world-renowned cutlery center.
The cutlers of the city were quick to take advantage of the demand for Bowie knives in the American market and huge quantities made the trip across the Atlantic. Today, Sheffield Bowies are avidly collected worldwide.
The three knives mentioned and the one shown on and offered here replicate knives that currently exist in private collections and are so beautifully made as to become instant collector pieces in their own right.
