This is another of our very long listings with an abundant text and 6 photographs, so please sit back and read the write-up through.  If you have come this far, we feel you will find it was worth the wait.

It has now been just over twenty=four and a half years ago since we were called to do the estate that had been closed up for seventeen years!

The Voodoo Estate!

This type of call usually gets us excited as they are a treasure trove.  Located here in Florida, there was no electricity or running water so we rigged our own lighting and in we went.  If you have ever seen the Adams Family you will have some idea as to what we were greeted with!  Then the attorney handling the liquidation gave us some background.

The estate had belonged to an alleged powerful Voodoo Priestess/JooJoo Exorcist, grand daughter of a Marie Laveau, and favored daughter of a Marie Glapion.  These names meant nothing to us, but the late night talk of Voodoo, spirits and exorcism in the old closed up mansion was enough for us to stay in a hotel and return in the morning to assess the estate.  The rest is history.

Our research has shown that this woman was what she claimed and was indeed descended from a long line of well known Vodoun family originating in New Orleans in the early 1800's.  We were pretty unnerved by this until we discovered they were also devout Catholics! Although I have to admit this was unlike any Catholic home we have ever been in and some of the items found inside were a little more than disturbing.  There was no feeling of dread or unwelcome in the mansion, however there was quite a bit of contraband and other items we can or will not sell here.

This is one of a few lots from this estate we will be listing this week, so check our other items.

We will, upon the new guardian's request, issue a named Letter of Authenticity with each lot from this estate, complying with the terms set forth to us by the estate's attorney.

Some Back Story

Found in what we have named, "The Black Pyramid Vèvé Room"  This room was an interesting work of architecture.  Windowless and located just above the Main Ballroom in the center of the mansion and only accessible only through a trapdoor and cast iron spiral staircase from the storage room above it.  The floor was four feet below the Main Ballroom ceiling, well concealed by the baroque architecture.  The architect had concealed the room in the floor above by surrounding it with four guest suites, it was dead center in the mansion.

Painted black, with ebony flooring and paneling, the contents of the room consisted of seven, LiDiex Glassworks Black Glass and Silver, charging pyramid boxes and their contents.  Measuring exactly twelve feet x twelve feet with a twelve foot ceiling, the room was well concealed by the architecture of the building, but it was stifling as there was no ventilation, the only air coming from the trap door above and that was not much.  Only a few of us went into this room to recover and inventory the contents, and none of us could stay in there for more than a few minutes, it was, well, disorientating.

This was another room with no wiring for electrical power and on the floor were the remnants of previously used vèvé's that we assume were drawn with the chalky powder found in one of the pyramids.  The remaining six pyramids contained an interesting assortment of jewelry, gems, mineral specimens and a host of eclectic artifacts that she kept inventoried in a separate journal concerning the ceremonies conducted in this room.  The pyramids varied in size from 9" x 9" x 7" to 3' x 3' x 2.2', so this was a massive undertaking as most of these were too big, heavy and/or fragile to get out of there safely, full as they were.

Concerning the pieces from this room she writes, " I have used these pieces to awaken psychic perception and mystical awareness and have found them to strengthen my memory and as an aid in dreaming.  I continue to receive insight and inspiration from these pieces."

And; "many of the ones awakened have sought refuge here, most being complacent in their worlds.  They will come if called to a blood match."

~!~

In these journals she makes some fantastic claims concerning these items and real or imagined, we understand why she was as feared and respected as she was.

We can attest that pieces from this room have shown to possess some remarkable attributes or association with what might be called paranormal activity.

Some of those who have had access to these items or their photographs have said they have perceived, felt, saw, sensed, etc., at the very least movement in and/or around the stones, many times directly related to them, but you be the judge.

The Lapel Pins

Originally thought to be a pair of earrings, closer examination and her journaled inventory told us they are lapel pins that were gifted to her in 1951 by Jack Parsons of Rocket Propulsion fame.  They are some of the items received as gifts from Parsons over a period of seven years.  She goes on to tell us of their use in a number of notable evocations and invocations conducted by Parsons himself while in his possession to essentially incite a brawl by offending certain targeted individuals to the point of physical violence which Parsons it seems was quite adept.

Parsons has a documented history and reputation of aggressive, physical confrontations and other inappropriate behavior.  He was expelled from military academy for blowing up toilets and engaging in brawls.  These were not his only eccentricities and coupled with his counter-culture lifestyle, he was blacklisted from government rocket work during the Red Scare.

One of her journal entries describes a ceremonial invocation that she participated in which led to her receiving, "Parson's everlasting gratitude", and in another entry she refers to him as, "a talented and cunning linguist bearing gifts."  This, "ceremonial invocation" is described as, "a revenge ceremony for the evocation of Bartzabel, the Spirit of Mars, directed against Hubbard and his bigamist bitch Northrup."

In another entry she writes, "These Golden Dawns have successfully invoked the Ancients familiar to the Middle East and Europe by opening the portals to their realms, but opening the cage of a hungry lion and staring dumbfounded will surely get one eaten."

These entries, and others pertaining to, "these Golden Dawns" indicate she and her associates did not see eye to eye with them, naming such notables as L. Ron Hubbard and Aleister Crowley among others.

It is an interesting tale of metaphysical science, betrayal, revenge and ultimate murder of Parsons according to her journals.

This is a fascinating story and much is already written concerning the life of Parsons so there is no need to burden an already overlong text with it, but we wholeheartedly recommend one do some research on their own concerning this.

It is the history of these pins and their companions that provide us with a fascinating tale.  Her journals tell us they were commissioned as a gift to Parson's from Aleister Crowley prior to their fallout.

To give you some background of what was in the letter published in Wikipedia; According to Crowley's own account, Rose (his wife), who was pregnant, had become somewhat delusional whilst in the country, regularly informing him that "they are waiting for you", but not providing him with any further information as to who "they" were.  It was on 18 March, after Crowley sought the aid of the Egyptian God Thoth in a magical rite, that she actually revealed who "they" were – the ancient Egyptian God Horus and His alleged messenger.  She then led him to a nearby museum in Cairo where she showed him a seventh century BCE mortuary stele known as the Stele of Ankh-ef-en-Khonsu (it later came to be revered in Thelema as the "Stele of Revealing"); Crowley was astounded for the exhibits number was 666, the number of the beast in Christian mythology.

Crowley took this all to be signs from a divine entity and on 20 March began performing ritual invocations of the God Horus in his rented room.  It was after this invocation that Rose, or as he now referred to her, Ouarda the Seeress, informed him that, "the Equinox of the Gods had come".

It was on 8 April, when the couple were still staying in Cairo, that Crowley first heard a disembodied voice talking to him, claiming that it was coming from a being known as Aiwass, the true nature of whom Crowley never understood.  Crowley's disciple and later secretary Israel Regardie believed that this voice came from Crowley's subconscious, but opinions among Thelemites differ widely.

Aiwass claimed to be a messenger from the God Horus, who was also referred to by him as Hoor-Paar-Kraat.  Crowley wrote down everything the voice told him over the course of the next three days, and subsequently titled it Liber AL vel Legis or The Book of the Law

According to her journals, Parsons related what Crowley had told him in the letter, "I have told no one, nor written of this before today, of that time in Egypt with Aiwass leading me to the musta'arabim silversmith who had made the rings.   In secret I reveal and relate the tale of the djinn who had brought me to the gems of Thaschus Cæcilius Cyprianus.  And now it seems he has brought you to me to take the rings'.  Just as he told me as he handed them over to me," (the companion rings previously mentioned).

These entries are dated in 1951.

So, in 1951, she receives from Parsons, these items once owned by Crowley and she tells us, "we have recovered them all."

Their Use of the Lapel Pins

Their journals are rife with spells, curses and hexes involving shoe soles and the bottoms of feet.  Placing a spell or hex on the shoe sole is often practiced in folk magic.  This is control, domination and protection magic of intention in which the target is symbolically under your control as you stand or walk.

The pins were designed to place and break these spells.  She also tells us of the signs of such things such as, squeaking soles, peeling or cracking leather.  Laces coming undone, and tripping are also said to be signs and time to wear the pins on each lapel.

Shoe sigils are often drawn on soles to break or block curses and protect your personal energy.  She tells us the blue sapphire gems set in the pins are such sigils.

Parsons used these pins to knowingly offend certain individuals inciting them to fight.  He did this for sport.  Showing the bottom of your shoes is indeed deeply offensive in many cultures across the Middle East, Asia, and India.

And Finally, Back to the Pins

Their journals make it apparent these items she received from Parsons were coveted by her and her associates that had access to them.  Our clients who are in receipt of them seem to feel the same way.

The pins are unmarked, with no maker's or assay marks and test as .950 silver standard, (95% silver). They have a combined weight of 4.5 grams without the spring loaded tac-backs, which although are original to this estate, we believe they are replacements married to them by their new owners.  Our educated guess is they are solid nickel.

Each measures approximately 1" x 3/8" x 1/16" with a 1/4" pin.

The four 1.4 mm antique round cut blue sapphire gems are highly included and have been prong set.

The Pin Components and Commentary
More often than not, their metal of choice was silver as she notes, "Silver is the mirror of the soul related to the moon energies.  It strengthens connections of the astral and physical bodies.  A metal unmatched in its psychic energies and healing abilities, I have used it as a spell medium, to heal the speech impaired and to help public speakers achieve eloquence.  Induced into the drink, it has expelled the toxins that caused headaches, arthritis, intestinal and blood disorders.  More importantly it attracts, enhances and stores energies of gemstones, driving out negative energies the stone may have absorbed."
~!~
She also tells us, "the blue sapphires are host to a long list of metaphysical properties".

 The Sapphire Gems

Some of her journal entries concerning sapphires read; "intuits enhancers that attune to the flow of life, calming and centering they are full of happiness, their energies bring contentment while attracting prosperity and the fulfillment of one's dreams.  They have been successfully used to scry for and enhance psychic ability with all feminine energies."

"stimulating energies that enable one to focus on fair resolutions of problematic situations."

"sapphire has a wide range of powerful metaphysical properties.  Worn during trials it helps determine the truth."

Some other entries read; "Well charged its energies increase awareness and intuition on both the physical and non-physical planes, but I must caution its use inspires ambition.  It protects one from physical harm, strengthens loyalty and honesty to those exposed to it.  But its strongest energies aid in meditation and enhance one's own spiritual and mental powers."

"One's understanding is enhanced markedly by an increased level of self-confidence and amplification of one's psychic energies when these stones are worn.  This energy will neutralize negative energies in its sphere of influence while dispelling the fear and grief associated with loves lost in death or disassociation.  They relax the physical and nonphysical self and have proven useful in treating anxiety, infectious disease, sepsis and most sleep and heart disorders, leaving the suffering at peace and ease.  These are stones of inspiration when used in love matters, especially from the emotional turmoil encountered."

"Here are the benevolent blessings of Jupiter.  It ensures wealth and the blessings of love as well as being a charm of protection.  When facing monetary or property losses, prescribing this to be worn for the blessings it brings will remove these difficulties."

"This stone has been used extensively by our kind since antiquity, and we attribute numerous properties to it and to its use.  It empowers the leader and the healer in making decisions and bestows financial gain on one who wears it.  Its healing properties are renown as it heals the mentally, spiritually, and physically afflicted."

When picking the pins up, see if you agree that you can feel their vibrational energy.

It is certainly a remarkable set of antique lapel pins with an extraordinary provenance that is much nicer than the photographs are able to depict.

Concerning the photographs are these excerpts from the written statement of one of the principals; "When we first entered this room we used pocket led flashlights, commonly known as tactical lights, this room lit up like a light show as we directed the beams, the three of us said "did you see that?"  Among other things."

"When we ran 2000 watts of light down there, the lights shut down, period.  They just would not work in the room.  We checked the generators and the lights worked fine out of that room, but in it, no go.  Regular, battery operated flashlights went dead in there too, fresh batteries went dead in a second."

To date, Energizer has not responded.

Little more thought was given this until one of us more or less became the caretaker of this lot, more because he was the only one able to get to the warehouse alcove where the balance of this estate was kept due to the way we had packed the volume of merchandise that came into the warehouse over the ensuing years.

Although the photographer is no longer commenting on his use of a directed, high intensity led and ultra-violet light in taking some of the photographs, the staff member who retrieved many of these items from "the hole", the warehouse alcove where the balance of the items from this estate were being stored, offers some insight as to what had transpired.

"It was typical to be back there and have the power go out, but this can easily be attributed to our weather conditions and sorry excuse for a power company, but I had taken one of my pocket tac-lights with me and the first time I used it back there was, well, nothing short of phenomenal and overwhelming.  This is not a joke, they like the light!"

We have been contacted and visited by a number of people who were interested in the items from this estate since our first batch was listed.  Among the buyers have been known psychics and practitioners. More than one, after adorning themselves or handling their purchase, stated, "this is a woman of power!"

Many of our customers, after receiving items from this estate have reported dream contacts and other unexplained phenomenon.

Unusual, authentic Voodoo Priestess Estate piece and at a bargain price!

This is truly a rare opportunity to own anything with attributes to this estate.  The majority of this estate is now gone.  Most of what we had left, and it was considerable, has been split up and sold to a couple of private, foreign collector practitioners and will never be available to the public again.  We made the decision to do this as we have had some pretty strange visits from even stranger individuals and there have been enough unexplained phenomenon going on in the warehouse where her things were kept that many of our employees refused to go in there.

The pieces offered and sold here are some of the few remaining that will ever be offered to the public.

Nice addition to any collection, altar, wardrobe or decor, displays really well.

Really doesn't get any better than this.

There are 6 photographs below to tell the rest of this tale.
