Sterling Silver, Enamel and Multi-Gemstone Dragonfly Brooch ~!~ This is another of our very long listings with an abundant text and 6 photographs, so please take your time and read the listing through. If you have come this far, we feel you will find it was worth the wait. Twenty-four and a half years have now passed since we were called to do the estate that had been closed up for seventeen years! The Voodoo Estate!Some Back Story Found on the Main Altar in the Main Ballroom, which was the largest if not the most ornate of all the altars in this estate. It was here in the Main Ballroom that the large ceremonial gatherings took place. There is no inventory or journal mention of this brooch that we have been able to cross reference and attribute. This is not unusual as our own attempts at inventory, identification and attributing the items found at this altar has proven to be a monumental task. There were piles of items that had apparently been tossed at altar and left to accumulate over the years. We literally had to shovel them up in some areas to cart them out of there. Most of these items have gone unattributed due to lack of mention in her journals and inventories. We believe the brooch was most likely worn to the altar by a visiting practitioner and was left as an offering, as indicated by those that we have been able to attribute. The Guest Book to this altar room has thousands of entries which read like a who's who of metaphysical practitioners, dating back to 1910 with a total of 6842 from 1979 to the ninety days following her death. The brooch is marked 925 and WTS and tests as .925 Sterling Silver Standard. Artificial Intelligence tells us the "WTS" mark is often associated with the Watson Company, a well-known American silversmith which did not make his brooch. The mark is also frequently seen on modernist, heavy tribal and biker-style pieces originating in Connecticut. It measures approximately 1 11/16" x 1 15/16" x 1/8" and weighs 7.1 grams. The brooch is in excellent overall condition with no signs of loose stones, damage or repair. ~!~ The Brooch Components and Commentary ~!~ Sterling Silver More often than not, their metal of choice was silver as she notes, "Silver is the mirror of the soul related to the moon energies. It strengthens connections of the astral and physical bodies. A metal unmatched in its psychic energies and healing abilities, I have used it as a spell medium, to heal the speech impaired and to help public speakers achieve eloquence. Induced into the drink, it has expelled the toxins that caused headaches, arthritis, intestinal and blood disorders. More importantly it attracts, enhances and stores energies of gemstones, driving out negative energies the stone may have absorbed." ~!~ The Cut Pyrite The cut pyrite stones, which are often mis-described as marcasite, which it is not, are all there and firm within their settings. She writes of pyrite as "a dream talisman" and, "this energy is suited to allow entry into and manipulation of the dreams of others and I have used it as such. This is an energy that has been favorably used in dream manipulation of the unborn fetus." "it inspires relaxation and spiritual reflection allowing me greater focus and reflection. I have also found it to be an aid in recalling past life memories."
~!~ The Rhodolite Garnet Gems The pair of 1.55 mm faceted round and single 4.7625 x 3.175 mm faceted oval rhodolite garnet gems used in this brooch are of very fine cut and predominantly dark red color, They view clean when viewed face up under 10x loupe magnification. She tells us that Rhodolite garnet gems are "vivid dream stones of past life remembrance. These are energies of love and life that enhance these within us. It cleanses and renews, comforts and protects, doing well for those in need of self respect." "Assuredly dream work stones that have been aggressive in past life recall with strong tendencies to formulate love and bonding." "The stone draws happiness and are an aid to sexuality sharpening perceptions to allow creative energies to whet the sexual appetite. If worn during cycle it will help to control a bad months flow." ~!~ The Amethyst Gem Some of her journal entries concerning amethyst read; "These gems embody stunning beauty and legendary powers of stimulation that soothe the psyche." "Miraculous healers that have been used to treat a host of ailments and disorders." "February's stone, it belongs to Neptune, hence a water stone and the traditional birthstone of this month." "These gems are quite protective, returning negative energy back into the universe as positive." "These gems are effective healers of people, plants and animals." "History reveals a close association of this stone to wine, Bacchus and drunkenness, or the prevention of it. In ancient Greece and Rome, goblets were inlaid with Amethyst in the belief that wine from such a vessel would be powerless to intoxicate." "A travelers stone to be worn as protection from treachery away from home. It has kept us from harm and given us victory over our enemies. It s a powerful psychic stone of protection against magic, witchcraft and contagious disease." "Catholic bishops wore Amethyst rings as a means of protection against mystical intoxication. Kissing the ring protected one from a similar fate and kept one grounded in spirituality." "Used to control evil thoughts, it increase the level of intelligence and renders one shrewd in the matters of business." The 3.4 mm, faceted square or Princess cut amethyst gem is of very good cut and medium violet color that views clean when viewed face-up under 10x loupe magnification. ~!~ The Peridot Gem

The 4.1 x 3.2 mm faceted oval citrine gem is of very good cut and color that views eye clean with minor loupe visible inclusions. Some of her journal entries concerning citrine read; "This stone has very strong, positive vibrations that are readily available. Its energies intensify with use which is enhanced by their cutting." "The stones have proven useful in calming all associated with them. A proven aid for those seeking spiritual growth. The meditations and healing's that I have administered with these stone have been most rewarding." "Power crystals that are to be used wisely and with respect. They are ever manifesting one's wants and needs. Look to them in healing as these are ancient ceremonial crystals for use high in the order which allows their energy to be configured and directed." The Aquamarine Gem Then we have the 2.6 mm faceted round aquamarine gem of good cut with loupe visible inclusions. Some of her notes concerning aquamarine read; "these stones were woven of ancient spells." "Enhancers of psychic power that have proven to be excellent cleansers and purifiers. I have successfully used them in rituals to promote health and in calming those that were emotionally distraught as it promotes peace, happiness and joy." "Ancient spell work, granting foresight and soothing psychic dreams have been woven into their energies. When worn for long periods they regenerate my youth and balance my physical and non-physical self while enhancing my psychic powers." ~!~ Shoryo Tombo She does attribute the dragonfly as a visualization aid in spirit transference and communication referring to them as Shoryo Tombo. This was a new term which we had never heard used before. She tells us, "here we have the images of Shoryo Tombo, the Dragonfly of the Dead. This is an ancient mythical creature of Bon origin that predates Buddhism. The spirits of the dead, carried by Shoryo Tombo, returning the spirits home where they are reunited with their families." A brief article from the Minneapolis Institute of Art tells us; In Japan, the dragonfly is a national emblem. In fact, Japan used to be called Akitsushima, or Dragonfly Island. The long, rainy summer season and numerous rivers and streams provide ideal living conditions for dragonflies, which spend the early stages of their life in the water. More than 190 dragonfly species can be found in Japan.In Japanese culture, the dragonfly has many meanings. It symbolizes the summer season, success, victory, happiness, strength, and courage. Long ago, Japanese farmers believed the presence of dragonflies in their fields meant an abundant rice harvest. Among the samurai, or warrior class, the dragonfly was a favorite emblem for decorating armor and helmets. Throughout the homes of noblemen, dragonfly images appeared in paintings and on porcelain, furniture, and fabrics.The mythical creature Shoryo Tombo (Dragonfly of the Dead) is associated with the Japanese festival Bon. During this Buddhist festival, people honor their ancestors. The spirits of the dead, carried by Shoryo Tombo, return home to be reunited with their families.~!~ And that my friends ends the write-up for what is certainly a nicely aged vintage dragonfly brooch with an extraordinary provenance that is much nicer than our photographer has been able to depict. ~!~
We have been contacted and visited by a number of people who were interested in the items from this estate since our first batch was listed. Among the buyers have been known psychics and practitioners. More than one, after adorning themselves or handling their purchase, stated "this is a woman of power!" Many of our customers, after receiving items from this estate have reported dream contacts and other unexplained phenomenon. Unusual, authentic Voodoo Priestess Estate piece and at a bargain price! This is truly a rare opportunity to own anything with attributes to this estate. The majority of this estate is now gone. Most of what we had left, and it was considerable, has been split up and sold to a couple of private, foreign collector practitioners and will never be available to the public again. We made the decision to do this as we have had some pretty strange visits from even stranger individuals and there have been enough unexplained phenomenon going on in the warehouse where her things were kept that many of our employees refused to go in there. The pieces offered and sold here are some of the few remaining pieces that will ever be offered to the public. Nice addition to any collection, wardrobe, altar, or decor, displays really well.
