This is another of our very long listings with an abundant text and 13 photographs. So please sit back and read the write-up through.  If you have come this far, we feel you will find it was worth the wait.

Twenty-four and a half years have now passed since we were called to do an estate that had been closed up for seventeen years!
 
The Voodoo Estate!
 
This type of call usually gets us excited as they are a treasure trove.  Located here in Florida, there was no electricity or running water so we rigged our own lighting and in we went. If you have ever seen the Adams Family you will have some idea as to what we were greeted with! Then the attorney handling the liquidation gave us some background.
 
The estate had belonged to an alleged powerful Voodoo Priestess/JooJoo Exorcist, grand daughter of a Marie Laveau, and favored daughter of a Marie Glapion.  These names meant nothing to us, but the late night talk of Voodoo and exorcism in the old mansion did cause some uneasy feelings so we decided to spend the night in a hotel and return in the morning to assess the estate. The rest is history.
 
Our research has shown that this woman was what she claimed and was indeed descended from a long line of well known Vodoun family originating in New Orleans in the early 1800's.
 
We were pretty unnerved by this until we discovered they were also devout Catholics!  Although I have to admit this was unlike any Catholic home we have ever been in and some of the items found inside were a little more than disturbing.
 
There was no feeling of dread or unwelcome in the mansion, however there was quite a bit of contraband and other items we can or will not sell here.
 
This is one of a few pieces from this estate we will be listing this week, so check our other postings!
 
We will, upon the new guardian's request, issue a named Letter of Authenticity with each lot from this estate, complying with the terms set forth to us by the estate's attorney.

Some Back Story
 
Found in what was named, "The Black Pyramid Vèvé Room."  This room was an interesting work of architecture.  Windowless and located just above the Main Ballroom in the center of the mansion, it was only accessible through a trapdoor and cast iron spiral staircase from the storage room above it.  The floor was four feet below the Main Ballroom ceiling, well concealed by the baroque architecture.  The architect had concealed the room in the floor above by surrounding it with four guest suites, it was dead center in the mansion.
 
Painted black, with ebony flooring and paneling, the contents of the room consisted of seven, LiDiex Black Glass and Silver, charging pyramid boxes and their contents.  Measuring exactly twelve feet x twelve feet with a twelve foot ceiling, the room was well concealed by the architecture of the building, but it was stifling as there was no ventilation, the only air coming from the trap door above and that was not much.  Only a few of us went into this room to recover and inventory the contents and none of us could stay in there for more than a few minutes, it was, well, disorientating.
 
This was another room with no wiring for electrical power and on the floor were the remnants of previously used vèvé's that we assume were drawn with the chalky powder found in one of the pyramids.  The remaining six pyramids contained an interesting assortment of jewelry, mineral specimens, gemstones and an eclectic mix of artifacts that she kept inventoried in a separate journal concerning the ceremonies conducted in this room.
 
The pyramids varied in graduated size from 9" x 9" x 7" to 3' x 3' x 2.2', so this was a massive undertaking as most of these were too big, heavy and/or fragile to get out of there safely, full as they were.
 
In these journals she makes some fantastic claims concerning these items and real or imagined, we understand why she was as feared and respected as she was.
 
We can attest that pieces from this room have shown to possess some remarkable attributes or association with what might be called paranormal activity.
 
Some of those who have had access to these items or their photographs have said they have perceived, felt, saw, sensed, etc., at the very least movement in the stones, many times directly related to them, but you be the judge.

Their Components Description and Minor Commentary
 
Found on the top shelf of the fifth pyramid, her journals tell us she assembled it from components at hand and that they were, "married and spelled for meditative sessions of love which involved spirit invocations to aid us in simple yes/no divinations."

The Point Pendant

Her inventory and journals tell us the black epidote tourmaline rutilated rainbow quartz point, "is the heart stone of a coveted Brazil specimen."  The lapidary work and silver mounting were made for her through an unnamed Los Angeles Silversmith, (more of this below). 

Unmarked, with no maker's or assay marks, the pendant measures approximately 1 1/8" (with bale) x 5/16" and weighs 1.6 grams.

The Silver
 
More often than not, her metal of choice was silver as she notes, "silver is the mirror of the soul related to the moon energies.  It strengthens connections of the astral and physical bodies.  A metal unmatched in its psychic energies and healing abilities, I have used it as a spell medium, to heal the speech impaired and to help public speakers achieve eloquence.  Induced into the drink, it has expelled the toxins that caused headaches, arthritis, intestinal and blood disorders.  More importantly it attracts, enhances and stores energies of gemstones, driving out negative energies the stone may have absorbed."

Los Angeles Indonesian Sterling Silver
 
The pendant bale setting was custom made for her by this unnamed silversmith employed by an Indonesian/American, practitioner, follower, of Los Angeles she did business with from 1970, to 1977.

A Los Angeles Indonesian, craftswoman with four silversmiths in her employ, she also had family connections in Indonesia who acted as her buyers.

  She produced and procured a series of custom jewelry designs that have since become widely copied.

Brazilian Shaman's Black Epidote Tourmaline Rutilated Rainbow Quartz
 
Her journals go on to tell us of the point being "the heart" of a black epidote tourmaline rutilated rainbow quartz specimen given to her by a seer during her 1962 Brazilian Shaman artifact hunt.  Although she does not name them she does tell us she solicited a handful of Brazilian holy men, healers, sorcerers and seers to act as guides to her party and relinquish some of their precious finds, usually in trade for guns.

She does write of this seer guiding her party to the source of this rutilated quartz and of it being highly regarded for the spiritual protection and healing abilities it afforded and which her spells (chanted prayer) had enhanced.

Some of her entries concerning this rutilated quartz read, "the ancient energies contained in this stone force spiritual growth.  They completely clear the emotional body aura.  These energies have brought me to the realization of who I truly am.  This has allowed my patience to grow, the lack of which has been my shortcoming.  A true enhancer of personal power, attunement and awareness during all of my psychic journeys."

"This is a gentle healer that has proven most useful in healing those afflicted with digestive and internal organ disorders.  It targets the liver, normalizing the metabolism of glucose and fats, iron and protein production.  It replaces damaged tissue and eases the symptoms common to the disorders of this organ such as abdominal pain, fatigue and weakness, nausea, and jaundice.  Its use has promoted rapid healing of injuries, wounds and childbirth."

The point is of fine grind and polish, displaying black epidote needle and rutile  and heat sensitive rainbow (aurora borealis) inclusions.

Sterling Silver Puffy Heart All You Need Is Love Charm

This charm is one of the many puffy heart depictions in her custom made collection.  Her journals and inventory tell us it was made for her by a local silversmith in 1969 but fails to disclose which one! Their entries, along with the style and workmanship of the charm has narrowed it down to eleven, mostly unnamed silversmiths they counted among their practitioner followers in Mexico City, Miami, New Orleans, New York City, Red Bank, New Jersey and Luray, Virginia!
 
They do however tell us definitively that the charms were inspired and copied from a group of Native American charms recovered from her personal collection.
 
Hers was an extensive collection of hearts, "which are an embodiment of love, that is all the answer that needs to be, as love is all you need" according to her journal entries.
 
Indeed!
 
This Heart 
 
As the title implies, it is a well made sterling silver puffy heart charm. It displays hand chasing and honest overall patina.
 
 It is unmarked with no maker's or assay marks and tests as .925 Sterling Silver Standard.

The charm measures approximately 9/16" (with bale) x 3/8" x 1/4" and weighs 0.6 grams.

Cremona Sorceress 19" Italian Sterling Silver Box Chain

We literally recovered hundreds of silver chains from this estate.  Those associated with the estate all wore a variety of pendants and favored the amulets of Thailand.  Sterling silver was their first choice of material for the chains they chose to wear.

Cremona Sorceress Silver
 
Her journals and inventory go on to tell us this chain was obtained from a woman she names as, "Strega Judith Seitz" and as, "the mistress of the 1888 LiDiex, who hails from Cremona."  She alleges to have met her in Geneva in 1937, the introduction having been made by another Strega she names as Maria.
 
Judith was associated with this estate for three decades, which, despite the length of this listing, we feel it is worth adding some of the information we have compiled concerning her.  Little is written of the Strega she names as Maria. “Black hair and eyes, voluptuous albeit rubenesque, with a bright, full smile” according to her description.  Met in France in the early 1920's, she was a long time associate believed to have been killed by the Nazi's prior to the outbreak of hostilities in Europe.  We recovered six handguns with Nazi markings and twice as many rings that were attributed as evidence of Maria’s kills of Nazi officers.
 
There are sparse entries concerning Judith as she apparently came and went with her LiDiex, but she did occupy his suite with him when he was in town and spent periods on the estate that exceeded a year.  She does note of her being, "a dealer in Italian gold and silver with numerous craftsman and vendors at her disposal," and of her being, "a keen reader of cards and board, divination and foresight are her nature, one of those born to it."  Apparently, in addition to selling jewelry, Judith would use the reading and divination rooms specializing in Tarot and Ouija readings to affluent clientèle.  It is these excerpts from her journals though that bespeak best of her;
 
"This practice of sorcery is divination of the future by means of magical art.  In this concept, then, I would be including all the mancias.  I must emphasize, by their social relevance, the cartomancy or tarotismo, naipes, even games of ones own design to offer such effect, the quiromancia, the cafemancia or use of other infusions and the cleromancia by means of bibliomancia its aspect nonexpert are nonetheless a sorcery form."
 
"The variants, spiritism, Ouija and piscomancia, are divination invoking the dead.  When one invokes to malignant spirits or demons, then demonomancia is denominated."
 
"Save my documentation of the practices of divination by means of oráculo, atmospheric phenomena (as aeromacny) and the study of the entrails as it refers Herodoto in respect to Menelao."
 
"Christianity specifically prohibits the use of the sorceries, although they admit like part of its body of beliefs the existence of videntes of divine inspiration."

She also claims to have very much liked this woman, referring to her as, "a sexual deviant and clairvoyant of the first order."
 
It is alleged her having been called upon to, "read entrails to determine guilt in a Zuvembie revenge trial," proving to be too much for her as it is noted of Judith fleeing the estate for Europe late in 1968, never to be heard from again.
 
We should also note that the timeline makes her to be at least in her late forties in 1968, and we do believe she was ten to fifteen years older from the entries concerning the outbreak of WWII, but all descriptions of her and her activities describe her as a woman in her thirties.  This slow aging seems to have been mastered by many associated with this estate.

But Back to the Chain
 
Her inventory entries tell us this chain was part of a group Judith introduced into this estate in 1962 and it quickly became the property of the Mistress.
 
Examination of this chain reveals it is typically hallmarked "925" and "Italy" with no maker's or distributor's mark.  It tests as .925 Sterling Silver Standard.
 
The chain measures approximately 19" in overall length x 1.6 mm wide and weighs 2.8 grams.

Her Notes on Pendulum Scry
 
She notes the marriage of these three items created a natural pendulum energy she described as; "A powerful, psychic tool to open the doorways to other realms.  When a reflective surface is used, one should take care not to scry while sitting in direct view as these are playful spirits taking great pleasure in interrupting the spell.  If taken by surprise they are most cooperative."
 
It is apparent that she and her associates used many wearable pieces of jewelry as pendulum in their divinations, especially their gaming activities.  Specifically, horse and dog racing.  High stakes gamblers all, it would appear they were quite successful in picking winners.  We feel fortunate that she left such detailed notes in her journals with specific intent to reveal to us some of her techniques and results of nearly nine decades of experience using pendulums as scry and dowsing tools.
 
These notes constitute a book in their own right, but here are some excerpts that we feel should be shared with you at this time.
 
"We all have need and at the least, minor ability to glance into the future.  Using a pendulum to scry has proven successful among experienced and beginning practitioner's that does not require the ability and talent needed for crystal, card, and board work."
 
"If you find this method difficult, consider what is lacking in your knowledge of symbolism as it relates to your subconscious ability to interpret those symbols reliably.  One need look within to find the divination one seeks."
 
"This is a long standing practice used throughout history that has numerous applications and methods.  Yes, some psychic ability and perseverance are required for consistent and trustworthy results.  The curious novice be warned.  If you are unaware of your abilities and are drawn to such things, the chances are good that they lay dormant within you.  If this is the scenario, scrying will stir these energies within you.  Be patient and persistent, the visions will come.  Even if vague, with practice your ability will grow and your results will be noticeably improved as your talent develops."

Their journals tell us; "the pendulum is charmed to be used during ritual of sex magick," which involved entering into a meditative trance-like state with one or more partners during coitus in order "to create the most powerful of chi energies which we can draw upon."  These rituals, were known to last for days and although, certainly an interesting concept she also tells us it was a debilitating one, "often requiring days of sleep afterward."

In other entries she tells us it was also, "a spell inducement used as a visual stimulus of seduction" describing this as physically and openly being stimulated by the pendulum and its Palad Khik during conversation.  Their journals claim this is, "hypnotic suggestion that produces the desired result."

Here again we find her practices, and those of her practitioner, follower associates, encompassed a diverse, multi-cultural format and symbolism that She claims originated in Africa over 100,000 years ago that is the basis of all successive religious belief.

It is certainly an unusual vintage necklace with an extraordinary provenance, that is much nicer then the photographs have been able to depict.

Concerning the photographs, excerpts from the written statement of one of the principals; "When we first entered this room we used pocket led flashlights, commonly known as tactical lights, this room lit up like a light show as we directed the beams, the three of us said "did you see that?"  Among other things."

"When we ran 2000 watts of light down there, the lights shut down, period.  They just would not work in the room.  Regular, battery operated flashlights went dead in there too, fresh batteries went dead in a second."
   To date, Energizer has not responded.
 Little more thought was given this until one of us more or less became the caretaker of this lot, more because he was the only one able to get to the warehouse alcove where the balance of this estate was kept.
 Although the photographer is no longer commenting on his use of a directed, high intensity led light in taking some of the photographs, the staff member who retrieved many of these items from "the hole", the warehouse alcove where the balance of the items from this estate were being stored, offers some insight as to what has transpired.
"It was typical to be back there and have the power go out, but this can easily be attributed to our weather conditions and sorry excuse for a power company, but I had taken one of my pocket tac-lights with me and  the first time I used it back there was, well, nothing short of phenomenal and  overwhelming.  This is not a joke, they like the light!"

 We have been contacted and  visited by a number of people who were interested in the items from this estate since our first batch was listed.  Among the buyers have been known psychics and practitioners.  More than one, after adorning themselves or handling their purchase, stated "this is a woman of power!"  Many of our customers, after receiving items from this estate have reported dream contacts and  other unexplained phenomenon.
 
Unusual, authentic Voodoo Priestess Estate piece and  at a bargain price!
 
This is truly a rare opportunity to own anything with attributes to this estate.  The majority of this estate is now gone.  Most of what we had left, and it was considerable, has been split up and sold to a couple of private, foreign collector practitioners and will never be available to the public again.  We made the decision to do this as we have had some pretty strange visits from even stranger individuals and there have been enough unexplained phenomenon going on in the warehouse where her things were kept that many of our employees refused to go in there.
 
The pieces offered and sold here are some of the few remaining pieces that will ever be offered to the public.
 
Nice addition to any collection, altar, wardrobe or decor, displays really well.
